Searching for the Most Interesting Man in the World... Ok, not really, but I've been on so many painfully boring dates with men who seem to be following a script written by marketing executives for overpriced watches lately, that I thought I would put my desire for someone who has his own, interesting life front and center. I know that posting on here is an almost hopeless longshot, but sometimes, of a chilly Saturday afternoon, it's best to act from a place of hope rather than a place of hard-bitten cynicism, right? I am a 30 year old academic who recently moved to DC for a faculty position at one of the local universities. While I could not be happier with my job or with my many amazing colleagues, I have found it challenging to develop a social life outside of work here. For this boogie down BX gal, DC's social scene seems conservative and stratified in all kinds of perplexing ways. Beyond the challenges of trying to navigate this in general, I am finding men in DC baffling. What I want is simple: a long-term relationship with a brother who is honest, intriguing, passionate, communicative, intelligent and intellectual, and who has a sense of politics and justice that extend beyond Capital Hill and K Street. Witty repartee, a love of literature and music, and that intangible sizzle we chemistry are also essential. Unlike apparently 99.99% of people of my generation, I would not describe myself as "laid back." Rather, I am passionate and motivated, and expect that my partner likewise feel that there are things in the world worth caring about. Can we agree that the cynical cool posture and the hipster zeitgeist are politiy and socially irresponsible? I am deeply committed to my work, and it takes up much of my time, but I insist on having a life outside of work. I enjoy dancing, music (bomba, hip hop, salsa, merengue, etc.), capoeira, boxing, rock climbing, films, cooking, socializing with my friends, and wry observational humor. I love words and stories -- written, spoken, sung -- and need for my partner to share this affinity. Physiy, I am 5'4, curvy and athletic, with green eyes and long, natural hair. While I am fairly light-skinned and have heritage from throughout the African Diaspora, I identify as Black, and that identity is much more to me than a set of physical characteristics (see: Steve Biko). I do not smoke and I drink socially. I am hoping to find a Black or Latino man who is passionate about ideas, and enjoys discussing them - articulate men are sexy! This town is full of people interested only in short-term hook-ups, so if that is what you want, please spare me. You should enjoy dancing and other physical activities, and polyglots are also especially attractive. Write me an intriguing reply with a real, recent, picture, and I will return the same.
