I was 45 when I met her. She was younger than me and many scoffed. They said many hurtful things. Things like: It's the money she wants. The citizenship. She'll just use you than leave. Watch out, you'll marry her family! You can't afford to send money away and neglect important needs here, but she'll do that. You just watch. You're crazy. Find another woman here and be done with it. You're just lonely since the divorce. Find another woman to take the edge off. Sow your wild oats and forget about true love. It's for chick flicks, not real men. Besides, if she screws you over it it will be much cheaper and much less hassle than some gal from the Philippines. I'm telling you, online dating - especially international dating - doesn't work. Grow up and stop dreaming. Get a clue, go back to the dating scene. All the taunts I had to endure.
You had you fair share of concerns, too. Like I said, the path to mutual trust and respect, let alone ignoring the negativity of others, was quite a hard one. Still, against all odds, it worked. Like it was meant to be. You made me feel 20 years younger. I haven't grown a day older since.
We're both hopeless romantics with just enough hope to see this through, enough faith to trust the process, and enough love to beat any obstacle. Yes. We accepted it with open arms. In spite of the pain. In spite of all the naysayers. In spite of even ourselves and our doubts and fears. We say it through. There was no doubt, it's meant to be. We have finally met.
I can't help but think back, holding you now so close, and smile again with you. Your lips tingle still when I kiss you, even after all these years. The owl in the tree sounds like a wise sage. Like he always knew.
